The etiquette of Sir in the military

Why is using "sir" offensive in the army?

because the army is full of trigger-happy COD-loving school dropouts that slur it and make it sound like they're putting up with fa**ot drill sgts.
f**k the army.

Replace the army with American army.

I't isn't
only when you call an NCO "sir" is is offencive, because they are not officers.
not calling an officer "sir" will get you into sh*t.

/s/army/american amry

what? that sounds kind of dumb

Many NCO's see officers as whiny, lazy wankers, with a stick up there arse, it is easy to see why it would be offencive.
but NOT calling an officer "sir" would not work in your favour

Sir=stupid ignorant retard

I accidentally called my officer ''bro'', once.
Luckily, he didn't seem to notice/care.

What about english knights?

I;m a 22 year old Flight Lieutenant in the RAAF.
I make ever motherf**ker call me sir

How the hell can sir be offensive? If you don't call an officer sir you will be in deep sh*t.

"sir" is only supposed to be used with officers. you're supposed to call enlisted men by their rank. if you call an enlisted man "sir" he will say "don't call me sir, I work for a living" because Officers have it easy and live PHAT.

That makes sense but wtf is phat

In the army I was in, everybody was addressed by rank.

So who's in the army here, anonymous? Just got off for two days couple of hours ago. Feels good, man.

I always though you called all your superiors "Sir"
?

What about english knights?

I know a guy knighted for being head of MI6. He's a funny and charming old bloke.

it means they don't do sh*t and make retarded money

>Officers have it easy and live PHAT.
>OCS; ROTC
African-American friend, I hope that you are merely kidding.

'Sir' is a title for officers. The usual response, if you address an NCO as 'sir', is 'Don't call me sir, I work for a living'. This is surprisingly true. 'Sir', is basically the title given to managers, people who really aren't worth a pinch of sh*t when it comes down to it, and rely on rank and position to get by.

And they do it, only because they hate you. You probably think they salute you whenever they see you out of respect. Reality is, they do it because they know you have to do it back. It's their way of making you their bitch.

In the British army "Sir" is for Commissioned and Warrant Officers. NCOs below Warrant Officers are addressed by rank. "Corporal Bloggs", for example.
I thought in the American Army you address anyone of a higher rank as "sir"? I've heard sergeants addressed as "sir" in Afghan'.

A bit of a generalisation, sure 80% of the brats who go to Sandhurst aren't worth sh*t, but most of the ones that get commissioned from Warrant Officer are sound as f**k.

This is true. There ARE good officers.
But... the number of twats far outweighs the number of competent officers.
That, and if you're commissioned from Warrant Officer, your title was already Sir before you were commissioned, and you won't be commissioned as an LT... WO's go straight to CAPT/MAJ
